For collaborative workers across the globe, August 9th is a special day because it’s International Coworking Day! While it’s not technically Common Desk’s birthday, it feels pretty dang close. This year, August 9th fell on a Saturday, so we did the next best thing and threw a party all week long instead. Across all of our coworking markets, our locations hosted a full week of engaging events and networking opportunities for our members and guests. Check out the recap of our week celebrating the beauty of shared workspace below.
Monday: Matcha Monday
We welcomed our members and guests into the week with refreshing, calming matcha lattes. Whether iced or hot, matcha is a staple on our coffee menu and a great way to ease into the start of a full and productive workweek.

Tuesday: Teacher Supply Drive Tuesday
Tuesday was dedicated to Common Desk’s core value of ‘Be Human, Be Real’. Rallying together to support local educators and students in our communities, we gave back by collecting supplies for the upcoming school year.

Wednesday: Rep Your Company Merch Day
Wednesday was a fun opportunity for everyone to show off their company pride. The space had a great energy as members wore their company gear, highlighting the diverse businesses that thrive inside our coworking spaces.

Thursday: Summer Bash Happy Hour
The Summer Bash Happy Hour on Thursday gave everyone the chance to decompress from their workweek and connect. It was a relaxed and friendly gathering, with music and conversation flowing freely as we celebrated the week.

Friday: Breakfast @ the Bar
We concluded the week with a cherished Common Desk tradition, Breakfast at the Bar. As a staple event in our networking repertoire, it was a perfect and familiar way to end the week with members enjoying breakfast and conversation before heading into their weekends.

We’ve seen the week from our members’ point of view, but what about from our staff? Common Desk’s community teams’ weeks are filled with numerous tasks ranging from admin to event hosting, office move-ins, mail sorting, and beyond. International Coworking Week, while demanding on our staff, also serves as an opportunity for them to catch up with their community, welcome new faces into the office space, and more. We touched base with CD – City Place’s Community Lead, Angela, and CD – Wilmington’s Community Associate, Emily, to hear how the celebration effected them.

“This week was a reminder of what makes Common Desk so unique. Hosting a full week of events felt like a celebration of the community and connection that’s inherently built here. I always tell folks during tours that we’re not like other offices. We’re a cool office, *laughs*, but really. Our community is warm, relaxed, and purposeful in their approach to business and play and this week fully reflected that.”
“Coworking to me is community first, work second, and the weeks leading up to National Coworking Day really highlighted that. It was so special seeing so many people in our space participating, trying new things, and having fresh conversations. Honestly, what I love most about Common Desk is how the openness of the space seems to break down walls between people—you’ll see workers from totally different industries, or people who typically keep to themselves, connecting in ways you’d never expect.”

That’s a wrap! A mighty thanks to our staff, members, and guests who made it a memorable time. If you liked what you saw and want to learn more about becoming a member at Common Desk, schedule a tour at your neighborhood Common Desk here!
