Two years ago, Will Evans (Common Desk member since October ‘13) started a nonprofit publishing house founded, in his words, “to publish great works of international literature in English translation, to foster the art and craft of translation, and to promote a more vibrant book culture and literary community in Dallas and beyond.” Well, check, check and check.
This month, D Magazine, in its well-known “Best of Big D” issue, named Deep Vellumthe Best Publisher in Dallas, citing not only the international publishing house’s achievements in bringing the works of several talented authors to an English-speaking audience, but Will’s “unmatched energy and enthusiasm for building a true literary community.”
Since its founding, Deep Vellum has published works from as nearby as Mexico and as far off as Russia, facilitating the translation of ten different authors in that short time.
Nice job, Deep Vellum! Keep up the good work.
