Common Desk is expanding to Houston!

We’re so excited to finally (and officially) announce that another new market expansion is here–this time to the home of the Astros, Beyoncé, NASA, and soon, Common Desk! We’re officially H-Town bound (heyo), and we couldn’t be more excited to call the great city of Houston home in just a few short months!

Common Desk has always admired the diversity, energy, and culture that the City of Houston is known for. There’s a sense of Houston pride that’s unlike any we’ve seen before, and it was only a matter of time before our stars finally aligned with Houston’s to bring us to this amazing market. We can’t wait to experience first-hand all that the city boasts, loves, and celebrates!

Our very first coworking location in Houston will be none other than the hottest submarket in the city, known to most as “EaDo,” or East Downtown Houston. We’re partnering with Ancorian, a Houston-based real estate development and investment firm, to launch “Common Desk – EaDo” in the heart of the fast-growing neighborhood in Houston, within 25,000 sq ft of a 42,000 sq ft warehouse redevelopment known as “The Block.”

Ancorian’s prior experience in EaDo includes the development of East Village, which features hit concepts like Indianola, F45 Fitness, Koffeteria, Rodeo Goat, and True Anomaly Brewing. EaDo has earned a moniker as the “art and soul” of the city (which we’re all about). Not only are we opening in a neighborhood that has ‘Common Desk’ written all over it, we’ll also be joining the running list of fellow Dallas brands who have also expanded to the market, starting with EaDo–including Truck Yard and Bishop Cider. Fun fact: we’ll be sharing the remainder of the square footage of our EaDo coworking location with Bishop Cider’s hit concept, Cidercade (which means our happy hours are about to get even better!).

EaDo reminds us of Deep Ellum, which was the first location we ever opened in Dallas in 2012. It has the cultural authenticity and significance that we as a brand love to build a foundation from, offering the diverse variety of concepts and convenience you want from a submarket, without the congestion and parking difficulties you might find in a central business district. We’re excited to bring some of our soulful vibes and southern hospitality to Eado.

Nick Clark, Founder and CEO of Common Desk

Coworking’s not the only thing we’ll be bringing to Houston. Fiction Coffee will also enter the market alongside our coworking spaces, setting up shop from within Common Desk’s coworking locations, as well as in stand-alone brick-and-mortar shops for Houston-based coffee enthusiasts to also enjoy.

Here at Common Desk, we specialize in creating boutique locations in workspace and coffee for professionals of all kinds and in all stages of business. We plan to maintain this customized approach within a market by partnering with select landlords and asset types across the Houston metro, creating a unique variety of coworking and coffee locations around the city. Long story short, expect to see several additional coworking and coffee location announcements being made sooner than later for the Houston market!

The DL on Common Desk – EaDo:

We were attracted to EaDo as our first Houston neighborhood for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, it reminds us so much of our original location Deep Ellum roots featuring everything from walkable restaurant and bar concepts, amazing workday and weekend destinations, eye-catching street art, industrial elements, and a grit that can’t fully be put into words but that we appreciate wholeheartedly. Though we’ve grown over the years to be able to call a variety of neighborhood and building types “home,” EaDo is the kind of place that still speaks our language, and we’re so excited to launch in Houston from such a fun and off-kilter neighborhood.

Common Desk – EaDo will feature an amenity set you’ll want to write home about, including (drum roll, please):

  • a fitness and wellness center concept–complete with towels, lockers, and showers
  • an outdoor patio and terrarium
  • multi-level seating with rearrangeable furniture for events
  • a wet bar and shared kitchen
  • a wellness/mother’s room
  • skylights across the space
  • a Fiction Coffee espresso bar
  • sit/stand Varidesks
  • enterprise suites
  • custom art pieces and murals by local creatives

The warehouse interior of the building takes Common Desk back to our roots of an industrial but quirky aesthetic. Houston’s eclectic building typology inspired the idea of “mixed and matched” as a design concept, which will be communicated through our office storefront design, atypical material applications, and a collection of “found” furniture pieces selected by our in-house interior design team. Much like the neighborhood itself, Common Desk – EaDo will be filled with murals and art installations in collaboration with local Houston artists.

We are heavily invested in East Downtown Houston, and we felt that our latest development ‘The Block’ was a perfect location for a coworking concept. We work very hard to choose Tenants that fit each specific development we create. Common Desk puts together all the necessary elements to draw people into their workspaces. They focus on great design, thoughtful and functional space layout, and they have created an energetic and comfortable environment that attracts new members and keeps existing members loyal to the Common Desk brand. We feel that Common Desk’s vision for an experiential workspace will make this one of the best locations to work in the entire city.

Michael Sperandio, Founding Partner of Ancorian

Common Desk – EaDo is a workspace designed for professionals ranging in size from individuals and startups to growing teams and enterprise businesses–with shared desk areas located throughout the space, eight conference rooms with unlimited usage for members, private offices for teams ranging in size from one to eleven, and enterprise suites available for larger teams ranging in size from 12-35. Our Houston members will have the ability to use the Common Desk tech to enjoy handcrafted lattes or local favorites like a Saint Arnold 5 O’clock Pils by simply ordering on the app!

Big things happen in Houston, and we truly cannot wait to see how the city shapes our future as a brand. Houston professionals, if you’re looking for a workspace environment that’s productive, creative, collaborative, and just down-right fun–we’ve got a desk with your name on it!

Common Desk – EaDo will be opening late summer 2020, but we’ll begin pre-opening tours and events early next year. Head on over to our EaDo page to signup for our email updates, and keep an eye out for more exciting Houston news to come soon!
